Kelly + Eric | Fort Harrison State Park Engagement Session in Indianapolis

Couples

April 26, 2022

When I first talked to Kelly over the phone for our bridal consultation, I could tell she was one of our ideal brides.  She was relaxed and laid back, but also very organized and knew exactly what she wanted their wedding day to look like!

I love when couples book a consultation call with me, because not only does it allow the couple to get to know me better to be able to make a decision, as well as for me to get to know them and more about their wedding day!  You see, because wedding photography isn’t just about us capturing pretty photos for you so that you can relive your wedding day over and over again.  It’s also crucial to ensure that you and your photographer jive to ensure you’ll be comfortable in front of the camera and have a great experience during this exciting time in your lives!  You end up spending an estimated 15 hours or more with us including the engagement session and wedding day, and all the correspondence and planning before then!

I was so excited to meet Kelly and Eric in person since that first consultation last year, and I’m so excited to share their Fort Harrison State Park engagement session in Indianapolis with you today!

When Kelly moved from Michigan to Indianapolis 5 years ago, she didn’t know too many people.

So she started online dating, and soon she created her profile, she met Eric!  Kelly is a big Michigan basketball fan, while Eric is all about Purdue, so on their first date they met to have dinner while watching Michigan play Purdue in basketball!  After a little bit of flirting and laughing, they decided that whoever’s team won, would have to pay the dinner bill.  Unfortunately, Michigan ended up losing that game, so Kelly ended up having to pay for their first date!

Fast forward four years later, Eric had a dreamy plan up his sleeves!

When Kelly and Eric were on a trip to the Grand Canyon, they took a guided tour to see the gorgeous views and learn more about the fascinating history of it all.  Eric pulled aside their guide to let her know of his plans.  On their last stop on the guided tour, their guide was taking a photo of them when Eric asked her to marry him!  Kelly especially appreciated the way he proposed, because even though Eric has two bad knees, he still managed to drop down on his knees to propose the traditional way!

Kelly and Eric did an amazing job personalizing their Fort Harrison State Park engagement session in Indianapolis!

Not only did they bring two outfits that fit the state park and fall setting so well, but they also brought props to incorporate their first date that we told you about earlier!  They brought a basketball and football, since they’re both huge fans of college sports! Even though they root for different teams, watching sports is one way they love spending time together!

During their Fort Harrison State Park engagement session in Indianapolis, we explored some of the hidden trails near the water, and the creek, however, unfortunately it had rained a lot a few days prior and the creek had flooded part of the creek that I typically love to photograph at!  However, Fort Harrison is huge so we found other hidden gems that were even better!  During out time together, it became clear to me that Eric is the spontaneous one, while Kelly is the planner!  (I can totally relate, Kelly), but also that they are best friends!

These are the couples that I love working with, couples that bring out the best in each other and fill in the gaps where the other is lacking.  I can’t wait to spend more time with them soon for their May 2022 wedding!

Congratulations, Kelly and Eric!I had no doubt that you were both wonderful people, but after meeting you in person and seeing how you are to one another, I adore you both even more!  Thank you for trusting me to be your wedding photographer!  I hope you loved your Fort Harrison State Park engagement session in Indianapolis as much as I did!

  1. […] Kelly and Eric decided to do a first look since they wanted to spend cocktail hour with all of their guests, so they did a first look at the house as well and read their personal vows to each other in private.  I love when couples do this, because it gives them both a chance to spend special time together alone before they’re with their bridal party and guests the rest of the day!
