There is something incredibly special about getting to document a family’s story year after year, and this recent session featuring Holcomb Gardens family photos in Indianapolis, Indiana was no exception.
I’ve known the George family long before they became the beautiful blended family they are today. As a former wedding photographer, I had the privilege of photographing their wedding at Daniels Vineyard many years ago. Since then, they’ve invited me back time and time again to capture some of life’s most meaningful milestones- from family portraits and maternity sessions to newborn photos for their two youngest children.
These Holcomb Gardens family photos were especially meaningful as they prepared to welcome their newest baby.
With another little one on the way, we used this opportunity to document not only their immediate family but also gather their extended family together for portraits. These seasons pass so quickly, and having grandparents, siblings, and cousins all in one place made these images even more valuable.
Holcomb Gardens is one of my favorite hidden gems for family sessions in Indianapolis.
The tall grass creates a soft, natural backdrop that photographs beautifully throughout the year, and the evening light here is truly chef’s kiss. As the sun filtered through the grass, it created the most dreamy glow that perfectly complemented this growing family’s warmth and connection.
Of course, no family session with three young children is complete without a little bit of adventure.
We spent the evening exploring, playing, and embracing the beautiful chaos that comes with photographing little ones. Instead of expecting perfect smiles in every frame, we focused on genuine connection- snuggles, laughter, and those fleeting moments that parents never want to forget.
One of my favorite parts of the evening was capturing a few maternity portraits of mom surrounded by the family she’s built. There is something so beautiful about documenting the anticipation before a new baby arrives, especially when older siblings are eagerly awaiting their newest role.
It has been such an honor to walk alongside the George family through so many chapters of their story.
Sessions like these are a reminder that photographs become even more meaningful with time, preserving not just what your family looked like, but what this season of life felt like.
