Have you ever felt like you were living in a fairy tale? Because that’s how every moment of Dana and Cory’s wedding at Magnolia Plantation felt! Rain was in the forecast the entire week leading up to their wedding day, but the weather God’s pulled through and brought the most perfect warm and sunny February day! If you’ve been to Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina, you know what I mean when I say there is a jaw dropping backdrop everywhere you look. From the gorgeous golden light poking perfectly through the Spanish moss and the sprawling live oak trees, to the historic buildings and the tranquil Ashely River. Everything about this venue is just so dreamy! Add a gorgeous couple into the picture, like Dana and Cory, and you have yourself a picture perfect wedding!
Distance makes the heart grow fonder!
It was obvious that Dana and Cory were excited to just be married after having spent so much time apart! They had been together for several years, but their individual goals had forced them to do long distance while Dana finished law school and Cory finished military training. When Cory finally got orders to move to Charleston, they moved there together and settled into their first home (that coincidentally was just a few houses down from our previous home in Charleston!) It was clear that Dana and Cory were more than ready to tie the knot!
Dana and Cory’s wedding at Magnolia Plantation
When I showed up to the adorable getting space for their wedding at Magnolia Plantation, I quickly got started with her details! The getting ready cottage was so cute that I decided to hang her wedding dress out front to showcase it. Dana and her brother are very close, so he helped with some of the getting ready touch ups, even though the assertive personality in Dana may or may not have had to tell him how to do everything. Their playful and sarcastic brother-sister relationship made us all laugh! Dana then had a first look with her dad who she’s also really close with. It was a sweet moment for her dad to see his little girl in her wedding dress for the first time!
The wonderful staff at Magnolia escorted us around the plantation in a golf cart to all of the best spots for photos. We lucked out with being able to do their first look on the infamous white bridge at Magnolia Plantation that had just reopened that week, because just seven months before a tree fell on it during a storm! The bridge is the perfect spot for wedding portraits, because the reverend who built it back in the 1840’s, built it for his own bride! (See, I told you! Weddings at Magnolia Plantation are just perfect!) We had an hour to capture their bride and groom portraits, which from a photographer timeline standpoint is a dream! This allowed us to move around to several spots on the property without rushing, and even get portraits with their two pups River and Dozer!
