The cost of weddings over the last few years has skyrocketed thanks to the global pandemic, so like many couples you may be trying to figure out where you can save! However, I’m here to tell you today why engagement sessions are so important! Here at Kaitlin Mendoza Photography, we think they are so incredibly important, so much that we include them in all of the wedding collections that we offer!
1. It’s a great way for you to get to know your photographer, and for your photographer to get to know you!
When I’ve already had the chance to have a couple in front of my camera, I already know what makes them laugh, if they’re outgoing or shy, how to pose them together to flatter their unique body types, and what poses they liked best! I send out an email a few weeks after they receive their full engagement session gallery back, to find out which were their favorite photos so I can repeat something similar on their wedding day! The couple has also had a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, so that on their wedding day their basically seasoned models who know the drill!
2. You can use the engagement photos for your wedding!
Another reason why engagement sessions are important, is you can use your favorite engagement photo on the front of the save the dates! In addition, many of my past couples have displayed their engagement photos in an album that we designed for them, and then use the inside covers as a guest book. Lastly, you can also display your engagement photos on your wedding website, which is even more common if you have a lot of guests coming from out of town or are planning a destination wedding.
3. You’ll have professional photos of you two that aren’t your wedding photos!
In all transparency, when my husband and I were engaged, we did not do an engagement session. We were planning a destination wedding at the time, and it just wasn’t going to work out logistically to make it happen. But you know what? We’ve been married for almost FIVE years now, and our wedding photos are the ONLY professional photos that we have of just the two of us! And I’m a wedding photographer! Because of this, we’ve made a commitment to get anniversary photos done every five years that are not a part of our yearly family photos! If we had done an engagement session, we would have beautiful photos of us other than our wedding photos to hang on the wall of our first home!
