Moving to a new city and settling into a new home can be both exciting and challenging, especially with a newborn on the way. The Emperor’s recently made the big move from Nashville, Tennessee a few months ago, and were looking for someone to take their maternity and newborn photos in Indianapolis, their new home. Their newest addition, Cohen, would be joining the family soon and they wanted to capture this special moment in their lives. We had a beautiful maternity session just a few weeks beforre he was born. And although they didn’t have a nursery set up just yet, we had the perfect idea for a cozy and heartwarming session in other areas in their new home.

With the nursery still a work in progress, we decided to transform their master bedroom and family room into the perfect backdrop for the photoshoot. And let me tell you, it turned out to be a great decision! The cozy and intimate setting added a touch of warmth to the session, creating an atmosphere of love and togetherness.
The Challenges of a Toddler
We were prepared for some challenges, especially with big sister, who’s delightful and so sweet. But on the morning of the session she was having a tough morning, just like 2-year-old’s do. Toddlers can be a handful, and I’ve learned over the years that it’s best to let them be themselves during a photoshoot. That’s why we started with candid shots, capturing big sister in her element, playing and exploring her new surroundings. Those genuine moments are often the most precious ones, full of laughter and joy.
As expected, when we asked big sister to pose or do something specific, she would often respond with an adorable “no.” So, instead of trying to control the situation, we let her lead the way. This approach allowed her to feel comfortable and relaxed, making it easier to capture her natural expressions and personality. I believe that candid shots hold a special kind of magic, revealing the true essence of a child and their unique spirit! This was certainly true during this session and we caught those moments of her being the best big sister to her new baby brother.
Adding Some Tricks to the Mix
Of course, we also wanted to get a few shots of the whole family, smiling at the camera for their Indianapolis newborn photos. To achieve that, I brought out a few playful tricks, making the photoshoot a fun experience for everyone. These moments of togetherness and laughter displayed the love that already binds this family of five.

Throughout Baby Cohen’s Indianapolis newborn session, we captured beautiful images that perfectly embodied the love and happiness shared by this family.
