I may be a successful Indianapolis based destination wedding photographer, but since starting my own family a few years ago, I’ve become passionate about newborn photography as well. Before I tell you where to buy maternity photoshoot dresses in Indianapolis (and online), I want to give you a few words of advice!
Keep your outfits simple and comfortable for your photoshoot. Starting with colors – I find that soft neutrals photograph beautifully. Base your photoshoot dress around creams, soft whites, grays, or colors that lean pale. Avoid black, bright colors, and large patterns (small patterns are ok though!) when picking out your dress. I recommend something light and flowy if your session will be in the spring/summer, and sweater dresses and cardigans make great colder weather options. When you book a mini maternity session with me, you can always send me what you’re thinking of wearing and I can give you any feedback! Don’t forget about your partner – their outfit should complement yours and not distract from your bump.

During my last pregnancy, I turned to Nothing Fits But and Pink Blush for my own maternity sessions! These two shops have so many flattering options for bumps, regardless of trimester, weather, and dress preferences. Motherhood Maternity, Old Navy Maternity, and H&M Maternity are all great options, especially when you can’t get away with just sizing up in the normal sections.

If you want to invest in a lovely dress you can wear again after pregnancy, look no further than Hill House Home! You may not think of Hill House when you’re searching where to buy maternity photoshoot dresses, but I’m telling you the Nap Dress is perfect for maternity photos. The Nap Dress’s elasticated smocking stretches with your growing bump, and will still be flattering postpartum. I also love J.Crew and Baltic Born for a similar style dress! As an Indianapolis maternity photographer, all of the mamas I’ve photographed have looked amazing in dresses from these stores.

Sometimes I need to try on a dress before I can commit – if you can relate, I got you! Evereve in Clay Terrace always has gorgeous options, and if you’re headed to the Fashion Mall at Keystone there are maternity options at Nordstrom, J. Crew, Madewell, and so much more. When in doubt, the beloved Target is always an option!
