One of my favorite things about being a Fishers, Indiana newborn photographer is getting the opportunity to photograph not just families, but friends and fellow photographers too. This session was particularly special because I’ve known Ladi for years.
Shortly after I moved to Indianapolis, I was primarily photographing weddings and needed an experienced second shooter. Ladi stepped in and assisted me at several local weddings, and from there, our friendship grew. With our oldest girls the same age, we continued to stay in touch through social media and the busy seasons of motherhood.
Last summer, Ladi welcomed her second baby, Audrey.
I had the privilege of documenting this sweet season for her with in-home newborn photos in her own studio space. Ladi is a talented family and brand photographer herself, and she has a beautiful studio within her home where she often photographs clients. It was an honor to step into her world, bring along a few dresses from my client closet, and capture her with her newest little one.
She chose a simple, neutral white dress from the collection, which created the perfect timeless look and allowed the focus to remain on her connection with Audrey.
There’s Not One Right Way to Have a Newborn Session
While I typically recommend scheduling newborn sessions around two weeks after birth, sometimes babies are a little older for various reasons when we do their in-home newborn photos—and that is absolutely okay.
Older newborns are often more awake, which can lead to incredibly sweet, soulful images with wide-eyed expressions. Audrey was such a joy to photograph, and the images of just Ladi and her baby in a space that is so sacred to her feel especially meaningful.
