As a newborn photographer, one of my favorite parts of being invited into families’ homes is seeing how they’ve prepared for this new chapter of life. Recently, I had the joy of capturing newborn photography in Meridian Kessler Indianapolis (a beautiful neighborhood just north of downtown Indianapolis) for a family welcoming their first little one, PJ—and their sweet fur-brother, too!
A Peaceful Baby and a Sweet Nursery
When I arrived, Mom gave PJ a feeding while I photographed the thoughtfully decorated nursery. Their home had so much charm- from the cozy front porch to the nook in his nursery where they positioned the changing table. I loved that they chose to use mom’s crib from when she was a baby as his crib, adding the perfect heirloom touch that fit right in.
Soon after he fed, he drifted off into a peaceful sleep and stayed content throughout the entire session. It’s such a gift when little ones snooze soundly—we’re able to move gently through the session, capturing every detail without interruption. And if he hadn’t? That is ok too. I often have babies that need an extra feeding (or two) to settle in the swaddle, a paci here and there or are just wide awake the entire time- and that’s fine too! When we follow the baby’s lead, it creates a more stress-free experience for both parents and baby. Either way, I’ll be sure to get all the cute photos during our time together.
Including the Family Dog in Newborn Photography in Meridian-Kessler Indianapolis
The real surprise? It wasn’t a toddler sibling adjusting to life with a new baby—it was the family dog! Their pup was clearly a little unsure about this new addition, often keeping his distance. With some patience (and a few well-timed treats), we were able to capture the sweetest images of him near his new baby brother. Those photos turned out to be some of my favorites, because they tell the full story of this growing family.
Mom’s Outfit from the Client Closet
Mom looked absolutely radiant in a dress she borrowed from my client closet. The soft tones paired beautifully with the nursery’s color palette, ensuring the focus stayed on the natural connection and love in the room.
It was a joy to photograph little PJ and his parents!
Sessions like this one in Meridian Kessler Indianapolis are why I love offering newborn photography—they’re relaxed, personal, and full of meaningful details that make your story unique. Whether it’s siblings, pets, or just soaking in those newborn snuggles, I aim to capture this fleeting season in the most natural way possible.
