Have you ever wondered what it feels like to frame one of the most cherished moments in life? Maternity photography allows you to capture the beauty of pregnancy in a timeless way. This post dives into Kayla’s maternity session at the picturesque 100 Acres in Indianapolis, IN, where we experienced the splendor of a summer day filled with vibrant flowers. In this blog post, I’m sharing not just about the session itself, but also about the meticulous planning that brings all the elements together to create unforgettable images.

As an Indianapolis, IN maternity photographer, I have had the pleasure of documenting these beautiful experiences for families who book the Baby Membership, one of which is Kayla and her lovely family.

Choosing the Location:

For Kayla’s maternity session, we chose the 100 Acre, a serene and beautiful location in Indianapolis that provides an enchanting backdrop filled with nature, flowers, and spacious fields. The lush landscapes offer breathtaking views and enjoyable surroundings—we were lucky to catch a day with beautiful weather that let the sunlight dance on the petals, amplifying the magic of the moment.

In planning the session, I suggested the 100 Acres not only for its aesthetic qualities but also for its open space where Kayla could feel comfortable and at ease. As we walked through the park, we found various spots to highlight her beautiful blue and white floral dress she had chosen. She was inspired by this dress from Hill House, and her choice added an elegant charm to the photographs.

Outfit Coordination:

The success of a maternity photo session often lies in the clothing choices. Kayla reached out to me with ideas, and together, we created an outfit mood board that not only showcased her stunning dress, but connected the entire family’s wardrobe through cohesive themes and colors. I included links and suggestions for her husband and son’s outfits as well, ensuring they complement Kayla’s look without being too matchy– preserving a natural elegance.

The Day of the Session:

As the day of the session arrived, anticipation filled the air. Because we had planned outfits ahead of time, they were able to arrive at their session with confidence and focus on what mattered– the love between their family.  Throughout the session, I gave Kayla several prompts to capture real interactions with her son that made for some frame-worthy images.

A Family’s Transition:

As an Indianapolis, IN maternity photographer, I strongly believe that maternity sessions are about more than just the new baby, but also very bittersweet.  They hold significance as it marks a transitional moment in family life– whether you’re going from zero to one child or adding another. Kayla and her husband were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their second child. Capturing these last few moments as a family of three came not only with joy, but also with some bittersweet nostalgia. Photos like these allow families to look back fondly at their journey into parenthood, showcasing the growth within the family unit.

The Power of Maternity Photography:

Maternity photography does more than create images; it captures milestones that tell stories for years to come. It’s an opportunity to celebrate body positivity during pregnancy and to honor the experiences and struggles that come with it as well. Pregnancy is one of life’s greatest miracles, and having maternity photos taken provides families with treasured memories that can be revisited to remember this fleeting season, but also passed down through generations.

Final Thoughts:

As we wrapped up the session, and the sun began to set, the glow in the sky mirrored the emotions of the day. I’m grateful to have been part of this intimate experience, crafting cherished memories for Kayla and her family. Nothing can replace those fleeting maternity moments, and witnessing the joy of awaiting a new family member is an awe-inspiring celebration of love, hope, and anticipation.
