When Lila and Brett inquired with me for their wedding, they asked if I’d be willing to come to Chicago where they live for engagement photos at Lincoln Park. Without hesitation, I said, ABSOLUTELY! Since moving back to the Midwest from Charleston to be closer to our families, I had been hoping one of my KMP couples would ask me to do an engagement session or wedding in Chicago, and these two were the first to make that photography dream come true!
Lila and Brett Have Great Chemistry!
Literally! They met when they were paired as chemistry partners their freshman year of college at Purdue University. From there the two were friends for a year before they started officially dating, which they both say is probably the biggest reason they just love hanging out with each other to this day. They’re both active people who love to bike, run and hike. In fact, most of their vacations that they plan revolve around popular hiking trails! Not only that, they are two of the nicest people and compliment each other so well. They are both very much independent people- Brett travels internationally a lot for work, while Lila loves to bike and participate in triathlons! They always find their way back to each other though, even if it’s as simple as reading on the couch together.
The Proposal
When they went to Palm Springs, California in December 2020, Brett proposed while they were hiking on a trail in the middle of Joshua Tree National Park. While looking over a gorgeous view, Brett told Lila that he wanted to spend forever with her!
Lila and Brett conveniently live a few blocks from where we captured their engagement photos at Lincoln Park and Lake Shore Drive!
You can even see their building in the background of many of the images in Lincoln Park, which will be a really cool memento for them to look back on when they print and hang their images! We ended our session with their more dressy outfit twirling and popping champagne in front of Lake Michigan with the dreamy Chicago skyline in the background! I will never say no to popping some champagne! They even invited me to one of their favorite local burger joints afterwards where we grabbed a drink and got to hear more about how they both met and how they love their live in Chicago!
