As I begin to settle in as an Indianapolis wedding photographer, it was fun to reminisce on a Charleston wedding I recently captured- Jessica and Derek’s Harborside East Wedding! Jessica & Derek were high school sweethearts, where they then followed each other to college at Clemson University. Throughout the planning process and their wedding day where I got to know them, it was obvious their love for each other was like no other. The way Derek looked at Jessica with such gentle and adoring eyes, was like he knew he was just the luckiest man alive! Jessica was genuinely SO excited to marry her best friend, and finally call him her husband, especially after having to postpone their original wedding plans due to COVID. It was obvious that humor kept their relationship fresh and light and that they were a couple that wasn’t going to waste their time sweating the small stuff.
Jessica, her bridesmaids and all of her friends got ready for the big day at The White Room in Mount Pleasant, just a few miles from their wedding venue Harborside East. The natural light shining through the large windows there allowed for amazing images of her details, candid photos getting ready and getting in her wedding dress- something I always recommend to brides when choosing a getting ready location! From there we drove to the venue where Jessica and her dad had a first look (one of my favorite parts of the wedding day!) Then Jessica and Derek’s had their first look near the ceremony spot before guests arrived, where we then quickly captured bridal party photos also!
The ceremony took place on the lawn behind the venue with the most breathtaking views of the Charleston Harbor and Arthur Ravenel Bridge! Jessica and Derek read their own vows to each other in front of all of their friends and family that was filled with tears, and of course laughter- a staple of their relationship! But perhaps my favorite part of their wedding day was while we were taking a few photos of them in front of the vibrant sunset that evening, a man and woman walked up on the lawn below and asked if he could sing them a song for their wedding day. This man was not just any singer, but an freaking opera singer! He sang the most beautiful a cappella song- Ave Maria, that was also played at my own wedding and brought me to tears. It was the sweetest moment and we were there to capture every bit of it!
Jessica & Derek, thank you for choosing me to photograph your most perfect day! It was an honor capture every candid moment, so you can think back and remember that very moment. You two were fantastic, and I wish you everything good this life has to offer! Congratulations!
