Luke’s first birthday session was extra special—not just because he was the sweetest little guy—but because his family drove all the way from Muncie, Indiana, to studio that I use in downtown Indianapolis studio. It’s always such an honor when families travel for a session, and this one was truly memorable from start to finish.
One of my favorite things about being an Indianapolis cake smash photographer is getting to celebrate these once-in-a-lifetime milestones with families.
Each session is unique, and capturing these joyful first birthday moments is something I never take for granted. To commemorate Luke’s first birthday, his mom thoughtfully packed several outfits so we could switch up the look and feel throughout the session.
One of my favorites was his tiny Purdue basketball attire—truly the perfect nod to a family legacy! She also brought along his favorite stuffies, which instantly brought out Luke’s personality and gave us some of the cutest milestone portraits I’ve taken to date. Their little smash cake made the session even sweeter, and Luke had the best time exploring it (and tasting it!) in the studio.
As always, I encouraged mom and dad to hop in throughout the session.
These candid moments of the three of them laughing, snuggling, and celebrating their boy’s big milestone added so much heart to their gallery. Not only did we capture Luke’s one-year portraits, but we also created their very first family photos—a combination that makes this collection feel so meaningful.
