Welcoming a new baby into the family is such a special time, and as an In-home Indianapolis newborn photographer, I love capturing these early moments in a way that feels natural and true to life. Their maternity session at 100 acre woods was a dream, and recently, I had the joy of photographing Eli’s in-home newborn session. It was a beautiful blend of soft, heartfelt moments and the sweet chaos that often comes with a growing family.
Eli’s mom curated the most charming nursery
With a light blue Harry Potter-themed nursery for their second son, the room was filled with subtle nods to the beloved series. Whimsical artwork to delicate themed details that made it feel like a magical space for their newest addition. Soft natural light streamed in, highlighting the cozy atmosphere she created.
A big part of in-home newborn sessions is adjusting to the family’s rhythm
Big brother was still navigating the transition to having a new sibling, which is completely normal. As an In-home Indianapolis newborn photographer, I always let parents know that newborn sessions with toddlers can take a little longer, and that’s okay! Not only does baby sometimes need to be fed or changed, but allowing big brother or sister time to warm up, take breaks, and move around naturally ensures that the experience for everyone is as positive as possible.
For Eli’s session, I used my gentle tips and tricks to involve big brother when he was ready. Instead of forcing moments, we let him engage at his own pace, which led to the most heartfelt images—like him peeking curiously at his new baby brother, reading to him or giving quick snuggles before running off to play. These in-between moments are often my clients’ favorites because they capture life just as it is—imperfectly perfect.
